What is an Internal Medicine Doctor?

After medical school, an internal medicine doctor spends three years in residency focusing on the adult patient, training with all the subspecialties of internal medicine such as cardiology, dermatology, endocrinology, rheumatology, and more. Months are spent in outpatient clinics, general hospital wards, and the coronary and intensive care units. Internal Medicine Doctors are often consulted to care for the medical problems of patients admitted for surgery.

What is a Nurse Practitioner?

A nurse practitioner (NP) is a registered nurse (RN) who has completed advanced education (a minimum of a master’s degree) and training in the diagnosis and management of common medical conditions, including chronic illnesses. Nurse practitioners provide a broad range of health care services. They provide some of the same care provided by physicians and maintain close working relationships with physicians. An NP can serve as a patient’s regular healthcare provider.

The basic categories of our services are:

Preventive Care

Physicals for adults, school and sports evaluations for teens 16 and above, well-woman, and immunizations.

Management of Medical Conditions

High blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes, digestive disorders, allergies, asthma, headaches, arthritis, skin disorders, thyroid abnormalities.

Diagnosis and Treatment of Acute Illness

Colds and flu, respiratory infections, throat and ear infections, allergic reactions, bone and joint pain and injuries, skin burns and lacerations, urinary infections, and gastrointestinal infections.

What is a Physician’s Assistant?

PAs are medical providers with graduate-level educations. They are licensed to diagnose and treat illness and disease and to prescribe medication for patients. PAs work in physician offices, hospitals, and clinics in collaboration with a licensed physician. Because of their advanced education in general medicine, modeled after physician education, PAs can treat patients with significant autonomy within the physician/PA relationship.

PAs are qualified to practice by graduation from an accredited PA educational program and certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA).
